YouTube star Corey La Barrie is dead after a car crash in Los Angeles and a reality TV star has been arrested and charged with murder, according to reports.
TMZ reports “Ink Master” star Daniel Silva was driving a McLaren sports car when it struck a stop sign and tree in L.A. on Sunday. La Barrie was a passenger; the two had been celebrating La Barrie’s 25th birthday at his house.
According to the New York Daily News, La Barrie’s mother, Lissa Burton, said both men had been drinking. Earlier in the day, several of La Barrie’s Instagram Stories showed him drinking champagne, and in another video, he said he would be livestreaming his birthday party.
“My heart breaks right now, on my sons 25 birthday today he was very drunk and got into a car with a drunk driver,” Burton wrote on Instagram. “The accident killed him instantly. No words can describe the sadness I feel in loosening a child. It just feels so unreal and I’m overwhelmed with grief. I love you so much Corey and will miss you so so much. It’s just so unfair.”
The Wrap reports Silva, a tattoo artist who appeared on “Ink Master” several times and won an episode of “Ink Masters: Angels,” was arrested and charged with murder while in the hospital, where he’s being treated for a broken hip.
The Los Angeles Police Department said Silva caused the death of La Barrie when he was allegedly driving a 2020 McLaren 600LT at a high speed in the Valley Village area of Los Angeles when he lost control of the car and crashed. LAPD said he “exited the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by citizens who came to render aid.”
According to Variety, La Barrie was a popular YouTuber with more than 300,000 subscribers and collaborations with other social media stars, including David Dobrik.
Silva also had a large online following, including more than 1 million fans on Instagram.
