Scouting Red Sox top pick Nick Yorke – The Athletic

Before he was selected 17th overall by the Red Sox in the MLB Draft on Wednesday, Nick Yorke was the Bay Area’s second-best MLB Draft prospect. The middle infielder was ranked 140 on MLBPipeline’s top 200 draft prospect list. Ryan Ozella, the former California area scout for Prep Baseball Report and founder of Ozella Baseball Consulting, raves about Yorke’s mental makeup, as well as his ability to square up the baseball no matter what type of pitcher he is facing.

“Doesn’t matter if the guy is throwing 75-80 miles an hour or the guy is throwing 100 miles an hour, he’s always on it and ready to hit,” Ozella said.

Yorke hit .494 as a sophomore and won the WCAL MVP award. He followed that up with a .505 average as a junior.
