Kena: Bridge of Spirits, from brothers Mike and Josh Grier and their team at Ember Lab, is a new third-person action adventure game coming to PlayStation 5. It was announced Thursday during a major Sony livestreaming event. The Grier brothers say it’s a story about adventure and personal growth.
“Kena: Bridge of Spirits seamlessly blends action and narrative into an unforgettable experience,” says the game description on YouTube. “Travel with Kena, a young Spirit Guide on a quest to uncover the mysterious story surrounding the demise of the village.”
The trailer for Kena opens on a young girl meditating in the forest, surrounded by tiny, furry black creatures called Rot. She wields a magical staff in battle against blue-tinged monsters that take many forms, including troll-like creatures and ent-like trees.
“You have no power here, Kena,” says an old man as the magical crystal on her neck breaks.
Gameplay shows Kena’s staff transforming into a bow, a sword, and more. In another scene the young girl uses her voice to cast a powerful spell. Once enemies are defeated, the little Rot emerge from inside it, streaming towards Kena for attention.
No release window for the game was given. Expect more information at the Ember Labs website once it goes live.
